In 1992, a young Ukrainian, immigrated with his mum to Mountain View, California, his Father however couldn’t make it. After a little while, his mum also passed on, due to cancer. This tragic incidence caused him to become homeless & depressed. By sheer diligence and persistence, Koum started learning about computers in his spare time, getting books from a store and returning them when he was done.
By the time he was 18, he had developed impressive skills, and in 1997, he was hired by Yahoo! as an infrastructure engineer, although he was still going to school (though dropped out later on). He spent a decade in that industry, resigned from Yahoo!.
Upon realizing the huge potential of the app industry in 2009, he starting WhatsApp Inc, working mainly at the back-end, redesigning, re-innovating, upgrading, doing multiple trials, nearly going down with frustration, with impending doom to quit and finally a point of victory. By 2014, WhatsApp had become enormously popular. Facebook bought the app for a staggering $19 billion, making Jan Koum, the founder of Whatsapp, our #MondayMotivation today.
